I thought this was a good poem. I think its about a woman trying to get rid of her pain for a man. She is going through the typical heartache of a woman because when women have feelings for someone sexually its strong. Unlike men they love long and hard and she doesnt want to feel the typical feelings that women feel and its hard on her. She just wants to be strong until she says him again. Structure: I thought the rythm was pretty much ABBAABBACDCDCD. I also think the sequence is very logical. She doesnt have her thoughts all over the place like Tim O'Brain.I kind of just flows.

The Sick Rose

I feel like this poem is kind of confusing. I don't really like it because it's kind of hard to understand. I think something could have been added for more clearification. Personally, I may be wrong, to me this poem is about jealousy. I think it's about how people will try to ruin your joy, your happiness, success, wealth, and any personally growth that for the better yourself. I think it's about how jealousy can really kill a person because they are always focusing on others and not themselves and getting their own personal growth.

To His Coy Mistress by Andrew Marvell

This poem was all right. I didn't like it but I didn't hate it. I thought it was about a man and a woman that are in love. The man is really expressing his love saying that he will love her forever and it will never change. Even when she's dead he will still love her and that he will cherish every moment with her. They are going to grow old together.

Death be Not Proud

I thought it was kind of a poem that someone could live their life by. I pretty much interpreted it as the theme being that if its your time to go then it your time to go. Death is random and there really is no reason behind it. Just like sometimes good things happen to bad people. Death is pretty much like a lotto. People can smoke like 50 cigarettes in one day and still live. But there could be an innocent young child that could be killed in a car accident or premature babies that die. Death is pretty much a game of chance and luck

My Papa's Waltz

I like how it was short and sweet. I think it kind of made me wonder why he was being beaten by his father. I thought it was because his father was just an angry drunk. I noticed it had a A-B-A-B, C-D-C-D.... pattern. I also noticed that every other sentenced ryhmed. I looked up the poem online to get a better understand of the poem and I found out that it a very misunderstood poem. I can believe that because it took about five times to read it to make sure I didn't miss anything. My interpretation of the peom is that a little boy has to deal with his drunken parent whom he must put himself and them too to sleep. The boy is trying to hold the parent up by himself by grabbing to his shirt to support him and it was kind of like waltzing because he had to support them. I noticed the length of the poem. Each line only had a few words on it.

The Streetcar of Desire

I thought it was funny that the movie was in black and white. I liked the overally plot of the story. I think Blanche really was a shady character. I couldnt believe that she would descieve her sister like that. I thought it was funny that she would think that Mitch would want to marry her after she confessed that she was a whore. I also though it was funny that she was pretending like she was 16 but she looked like she was in her thirties. They say the way you start out is usually how you finish. Well she started out telling a million lies and they all caught up with her. I thought iwas crazy of her to still ask him to marry her. But I thought he was wrong for kind of leading her on because he gave her a passionate kiss then doesn't even want to be in the same room as her. I didn't really see a point in Blanche yelling for him to get out before she screams. I thought that was crazy and if he even thought about being in a relationship with her after she did that the notion was completely thrown out the window. I Stanley has an angermanagment problem. I couldn't believe Stella even thought about going back to him immediately after. If he was willing to hit her once chances is he will probably do it again. I thought it was funny how she was yelling at him trying to seem like she was in control and telling him to do the dishes and wash up. So he gets angry and throws all the dishes on the floor and against the wall and says 'my place is clean do you want me to clean yours' and reaches for her plate and she says no. I also thought it was natural that the in laws didn't get along because that's the way marriages work.

The Movie: I tought the movie was different. It's really kind of hard to tell that she even got raped. I liked the movie becasue it gave me a visual affect. I can see the reactions on their faces and everything.

Trifle By Susan Glaspell

I like how the beginning starts out kind of making me wonder like why is everything not finished. It makes me wonder what happened and I like how it kind of prepares you for the scene. It sets the mood for a mystery and kind of makes me feel like i'm watching a Scooby Doo mystery. It kind of sounds like his Minnie killed him because she's kind of acting like a robot and she says he died because of rope around his neck. When she says it she says it kind of casual like it was nothing that he husband was killed. It just shows that she killed him but she doesn't feel bad for what she did. If a rope was around his neck wouldn't she have known who did it if they were sleeping in the same bed? It kind of seems like she doesn't care that she got caught and she wanted someone to know becsue she didn't call for help and when Hale asks to speak to him she tells him like it's no big deal. She didn't even try to hide the body. Hale even describes her as not seeming concerned and if that was my husband I would be crying and the police would have been called as soon as possible. The story also doesn't state that she didn't do it. She doesn't really deny anything accord to Hale's recollection. I also thought it was strange that she cared more about her preserves then her husband esspecially if she is on trial for murder. I think the women are more focused on the up keep on the home while the men want to try to find some evidence that she killed him. Mrs Hale kind of feels bad for her she feels that Minne is the same good person that she was when she was young. But John kind of killed her happiness and she's kind of in denial about the whole thing. In my opinion she knows Minnie did it but she doesn't want to believe it. She constantly trying to find a reason why she couldn't have done it.I think she thinks that she could have saved Minnie from John if she would have only stopped by occasionally. Mrs Hale is kind of taking the blame for everything that his happened. Since there was a gun in the house and John was hung it showed that Minnie really wanted him to suffer just like she suffered through their marriage with unhappiness. I think singing was the one thing that brought her joy and kept her sane but then he made her quit and he even killed the bird which made her even more insane. I also wondered why one hinge was pulled apart. I men I know back in the days that men didn't fear women for any reason. Personally I think she killed him when he killed the bird. Mrs Hale knew that John was a little looney. She knew that something wasn't right about him and that's why she blamed herself. Minnie was her good friend and she pretty much left her there to die. She left her alone with a man that she knew she had a feeling something about him wasn't right. Instead of helping her or coming around she stayed farther way because at first she didn't want any part of John. She knew that Minne was sweet and innocent and John was the complete opposite. In a way she kind of feels like a murderer.
Setting: Inside of Wade's house at night
Theme: If you don't speak when you know something is wrong then you're just as guilty as the person who did the bad deed and never put off tomorrow what you could do today. Mrs Hale shouldn't have waited until John got killed to say something. She should have came over and tried to help Minnie escape when she ws could have and none of these would have happened.
Irony: I thought it was ironic that she killed her husband and kind of waited for someone to find out as if she is kind of proud of what she did.
Characterization: I feel that almost everyone was a stock characters. They were all helping to build up Minnie and Mrs Hale. Minnie and Mrs Hale were flat and round character. Minne started off as a sweet and innocent person then she turned into a brutal murderer of her husband. Mrs Hale started off as being Minnie's good friend but then she slowly started to fade out of Minnie's life now she regrets it and will do anything to for her and to keep her alive because she thinks it's all her fault.

In the Lake of the Woods

I knew something bad was going to happen in this story because its in the woods. Anything that deals with the wood usually means someone is going to either get killed or lost and never found. I thought it was a good story. I had drama, mystery, rises question in my mind of wha really happed to Kathy. I personally think Kathy ran away to go back to the dentist she was havin an affair with because the boat was gone. The obviously shows that she didnt want to be there and was trying to run away.

Young Goodman Brown

I think Brown's wife Faith is a symbol of his faith and christianity. Faith's pink ribbon reminds me of innocent girl. The dark woods he walks though is like a symbol for pathway evil because in the movies when someone walks down a dark forest like that it signals the end and disaster nothing good happens after walking though a dark forest. Faith's dream symbols an omen. The random man that walks with him is a symbol od evil and the devil. I thought the strange man talking about all the things he did and who he hung with is symbol that anyone can turn bad. Even people you think are good and honest like saints can be two faced and you never could really know a person.

The Hunger Artist

His fasting is symbolism of purity and cleansing the sould of evil. I that because at my church that is why we fast. I think people trying to feed them is temptation. The cage could be a symbol of trying to shut the outside world out and try to cleanse himself. It kind of reminds me of Adam and Eve.

The Jewelry by Guy De Maupassabt

I thought it was ironic how his wife like fake jewelry. Why wouldn't she like the real? The saying is 'diamonds are a girls best friends' does that mean that her best friend is cubic zerconium? I also thought it was ironic that she was provided her husband with a luxurious lifestyle. Usual the man provides for the wife so they can kind of have that male dominance. I thought it was ironic how she died so quick of pneumonia. Most disease I thought takes a little while for you to die. I also would like to know how much was his wife making to support both of them luxouriously. It was also ironic how that necklace he sold when his wife died was worth so much. I thought it was also ironic that he married again and his next wife was the opposite of his first. I guess he was trying to find love and happiness. But everyone knows there is no rules or reasoning of love.

The Cask of Amontillado

I think the names are ironic. Fortunado is an ironic name because it's usual and when I hear that name it makes me think that the person is very lucky. But in the story he really isn't lucky because he has a drinking problem to me and he gets killed by Montresor. Another thing I found ironic was that in the end Montresor killed him and wants him to rest in peace. I'm a little curious about what made him that mad to make him want to kill Fortunado. Another thing that's ironic to me is that when they both are walking through the vault and there are dead bodies. If I seen dead bodies I would turn around and his was choking on that stuff that was in the air in the vault. Most times when you see dead bodies in vaults that means that there is danger and run! I also thought Monstresor's family motto was ironic because he was mad at Fortunado and wanted revenge on him. That is another hint to me that he should have turned around.

Twyla- Round and Dynamic because at first she doesnt like Roberta because her mama told her bad things about white people. Roberta- Round and Static because she doesnt change but she has a lot of character traits. I think the story is good because it has a lot of drama and i really like stories with a lot of drama.

The priest (Flat and Static) :He's a sweet man that left all his money to institutions and gave his furniture to his sister when he died.
Narrator (Dynamic and Round): He has a crush on his best friend's sister.
The Coachman (Flat and Static): He takes care of the horses and shakes music out of the buckled harness.
Mangan (Flat and Static): The narrator's best friend. He likes to tease his sister because he does anything she tells him to do.
Mangan's Sister (Round and Static): She tells him what to do and calls him in the house.
Narrator's Aunt (Flat and Static): She takes him to the market and takes care of the narrator.
Narrator's Uncle (Flat and Static): He takes care of him also. He believes in all work and no play makes people dull.
Mrs.Mercer (Round and Static): she's a old widow that collects stamps. She gossips.
The woman at the shop (Flat and Static): She is the sales lady. She doesn't really want to be bothered from her conversation with the two men and she makes sure the boy senses that and goes away.

I thought the story was kind of cute because it was kind of like a love story because he had a crush on his best friend's sister. The first time I read it I seems like he was crushing on his best friend's sister and they both wanted to go out of town. But she couldn't go he said he would get her something. The second time I read it I picked up a little more details. That Mangan's sister was so much on his mind that he couldn't concentrate in school and that he really wanted to go to the bazzar and bring his crush a gift. So he waits around for his uncle to come home from work and give him money to catch the train and go. But his uncle comes home late and wants to talk and sing. But finally gives him the money and he goes to the Bazzar only to find out that almost all the shops are closed except for one. He walks up to the counter and this woman is talking to two men and doesn't really want to be bothered by the narrator and the narrator sense that so he doesn't buy anything from her. In the end he's mad because he doesn't have gift for his crush and there's no other place to get out. When I read it the second time I liked it a little bit more because it reminds me of when I was a kid. If I really liked someone I wouldn't go out of my way to impress them like buying them something to drink or making sure I looked extra cute when I was around them. But that's life everyone does that so I can understand where the narrator is coming from.

A Rose for Emily by William Faulkner

The settings for this story is it took place in the late 1800s to the early 1900s in Alabama at Emily house. Everyone came to her funeral to see what she had in her house because no one had been in there for 40 years. I think this story was okay. I think I seen this in a movie. My question is why no one went looking for the man that was in her bed. How did he die? Why was he there? I have a lot of questions about the story. But overall it was okay. It was kind of interesting and had a good story line and plot. I liked how they kept it a secret that the man was in there until the very end. It kept my attention because I was the like the towns people I wanted to know what was in her house.

The Lady with the Dog by Anton Chekhov

I think the setting for this story in in russian city on the Black Sea at a resort where Dmitri sees nna (lady with a dog). The public gardens where they actually meet and have and have a conversation. Every evening for a week they meet at Oreanda to watch the sun set. Another locationis Anna's hometown where Dmitri goes to persue Anna because he realized he can't live without her in Moscow. At Anna's house where he trys to get her to talk to him. In a threatre where he tells her his feelings while her husband is outside smoking. In Moscow where she goes back to visit Dmitri but tells her husband that she is going to see a doctor. When I looked in the book it said setting may be customs or things of that nature so another setting couldn't be that they may not believe in divorces because he's not happy with his wife and doesn't really love her. But yet he's still with her. He doesn't talk about getting a divorce he just cheats and has affairs with a lot of women. He doesn't even respect his wife. I like this story because it's interesting and has drama and it's not boring literature that seems like goes on and on just to fill up pages. There are a lot of men out in the work that cheat on their wives because they feel once they are married there's no way out.

Occurance at Owl Creek Bridge

The plot for this story is that Peyton was being hung for going somewhere doing war time and then he got caught and they sentenced him to be hung and but he fell into the creek. He thought hwas safe but he really wasnt. He managed to break free of the rope that was tied around his neck and hands. Then he swam to the top and start seeing things. He thought he had a dream and none of it was real. He thought he was at his house and seen his beautiful wife and kids. But he wasnt the place he was at was kind of like a desert and he got shot at and they fired cannons at him. The first times they messed. But eventually they didnt and he died.

Girl by Jamaica kincaid

I find it funny how she is telling the girl that she is a a slut and she knows that she will be that but she wants to help the girl prove her wrong and not be one. I think the plot of the story is to turn the girl into a woman and an older woman is teacher her how to di it. I think this story is all right. It's kind of funny and ironic because some of the things she is teaching the girl is unlady like to me such as spitting and washing up with her own spit.

A Good Man Is Hard to Find

I think Flordia is better then Tennessee. i don't even ever want to go to Tennessee. I think the wife has no purpose. She kind of reminds me of the women in the old day that have no opinion but want to please her man and not make him mad. The kids are mean and evil. I wish I would disrespect my granny like they did. I wouldn't be here today. They are rude at the restaurant and embarass their grandma. I think that's sad that they got into a car accident and then men come with the guns. Then I can't believe that man killed them all. They shouldn't have went to Florida. They should have went to Tennessee and now I don't want to go to Tennessee. I can't believe how those men killed the whole family. If I was the granny I would have been upset. They should've listened to her and went to Tennessee.

Hills Like White Elephants

I honestly didn't like this story. It was kind of confusing. I read each section several times and still don't get it. I don't understand what was the big thing that he kept asking her is she sure that's wants to do. At first I thought sex. But then it said that they had been to whole bunch of hotels together. So I figured if they were going to do it they would have been had sex. But then he got the bags in the end. So I figured that maybe it's because she doesn't know if she wants to live in Barcelono permenantly and make that their permenantly address. I'm kind of confused.

The Story of an Hour

I was happy that it was short little passage. I liked the end I didn't even see the end coming. I thought it was different by the way it started out. I couldn't believe her sister and her husband's friend died when he really wasn't dead. That's sad that she went through all this pain and he wasn't even died. But I don't blame her for being happy because she was able to be her and be free. I thought it was funny how she loved him occasionally and not completely. Dang that was crazy how she end up dying because he wasn't dead. The first time I read it it seemed strange. The second time I got a lot more out of the story. It was kind of like the Austin Powers movie. You have to see it serveral times before you completely grasp the concept. The theme I got out of the story is be careful what you wish for.
